Take a Deep Breath and Relax

If someone said, "Relax", to you. What would you do? Chances are you would do quite the opposite. Most people do not know what true relaxation is. We are so busy going from appointment to appointment, that even when we do have a moment to ourselves, most of us think, "There must be something I have to do".

We need to incorporate true relaxation moments in our day, every day. While having a block of time to light some candles, and sit quietly is nice, it is truly not needed. Start by moving your shoulders up towards your neck, and gently release them down. As you do this, notice the difference in how that feels. Repeat this shoulder exercise once more. Are your shoulders lower?

If you watch a baby breathe, their abdomen rises and falls slowly. How do you breathe? Take a moment to pay attention to your breath. Inhale through your nose, and exhale through your mouth. Chances are, your chest is rising and falling, and your shoulders are raising as well. You may need to repeat that shoulder exercise again, before moving further. Now place your hands on your abdomen, and again, inhale through your nose, and exhale through your mouth, focusing on making your hands rise and fall. Feel the difference in your body. Do you feel less tension, and maybe a little more focused? Practice these while you are in a chair, stuck in traffic, waiting on a line, etc. In a very short time your body will respond to these exercises, and you can call on them in a moment's notice to help you through a stressful situation, or when you just need a break in your busy day. Truly being able to relax will empower you, and re-energize you. It's a gift that you can give to yourself everyday, and don't you deserve it?
